Bernard Purdie should have been on that list also.
OK, this has been bugging me for a bit now so I have to vent. The most recent "DRUM" magazine issue has a feature on the 10 session drummers who changed music. They state that these 10 guys have enjoyed very busy answering machines and have given us some of the most memorable drumming ever committed to tape. Most of the guys they have listed I would wholeheartedly concur with. However, they only mention Jeff Porcaro in passing and don't feature him as one of the 10. You've got to be kidding me Ain't right!

Bernard Purdie should have been on that list also.
Good List, don't know whom to replace Porcaro with. He must be in his league of his Own!
BTW Matt Chamberlain did a great Session with Tori Amos, her new album is with him all the way 19 tracks! ( some with programming though )
However, great sound and tasty playing!
not including Bernard Purdie and Jeff Porcaro in that list is like not including jordan and magic in nba's top 10 list. man, who wrote that list? josh freeze and kenny arnoff changing music? c'mon! that list kinda pisses me off.
What?
Jeff, JR, Pretty, & Marotta[s], weren't included in there w those other greats? How about perhaps Newmark or Steve Ferrone, didn't they do a qualifying amount of sessions? Or Steve Schaeffer, Craig Krampf, or Adam Nussbaum, perhaps? [OK, now I might be stretching it out a bit...] ;c)
Sounds like the article should've been titled "the Fifteen [or more] Session Drummers Who..."
Or just simply, "Drummers Who..."

Sounds like a journalist and not a musician
Sounds like he was on the $ for the most part, but...ya can'ts be pullin' no slight of hand w us drummers...
That cat who wrote that article might find himself in a room w a select horde of we disgruntled JP [etc] fans, armed to the teeth w his sig sticks...[& some mallots; & if he's really unlucky, some metal-wire brushes - oooohh, now THAT smarts!!]... J/K

My $0.02 - Chamberlain and Freese should be replaced by Harvey Mason and Jeff Porcaro
True that Benny, but you must also pay respect to the younger readers of the magazine, whom respect goes out to these two new-generation session-drummers. It's hard to put 10 drummers in this list and satisfy all readers, but still. very unfair Purdie and Jeff is not there.
Yep. Mason. There's another one...how could I have forgotten him?
I think they owe it to the younger readers to inform them about the first / orig "old school" guys...b4 they get to these new young upstarts / whippersnappers, klemme
[Edit:] Good point, BR [next post, below - I'm mindreading HODhb now] ;cp

They put the new guys in there as a marketing tool.
What has Josh Freese done that compares to Andy Newmark playing with Clapton or Bowie?
Benny,
You nailed it. I'm with you man...
